This page doesn't necessarily pertain to quotes, but the idea of silence and having a somewhat of a "blank slate" to work with. It could be that Oskar writes in the notebooks because of something simple that he has to go through-the 5 stages of grief- and this is the way that he is taking out his emotions. He is also known in the story for bottling up feelings that he has, incidents including his mother's oblivion or the prying therapist who is trying to understand Oskar's thoughts. Writing on blank sheets also could relate to his fascination with the color white, which is the only color he wears, but that is less believable than the previous idea. It may not even be Oskar when the blank sheets with only a sentence or two appears. It could be his grandfather, his grandmother, or even his father. The letters written in the book seem to be from a person missing in Oskar's life, who wishes so desperately to know him.
