"Start spreading the news..."- it could foreshadow that something bad is going to happen.
During the sections of picture pages, there is one recurring image of a blurry, five-pointed something hovering in what appears to be midair. The reader's curiosity for this strange picture increases as it reappears several more times, looking a little bit different each time. We never find out what the picture is actually of until the very end of the book, when short flip-book (not really a flip-book, more of flip-pages, really) reveals it to be a person, falling through the sky alongside the Twin Towers, having jumped from an upper story.
Oskar explains some times that that night was "the night before the worst day". I think that is foreshadowing the attack and his father dying.
