Oskar invents huge pockets to protect the people in his life and even in the world so no harm will come to them, unlike his father. "We need enormous pockets, pockets big enough for our families, and our friends, and even the people who aren't on our lists, people we've never met but still want to protect. We need pockets for our boroughs and for cities, a pocket that could hold the universe." (74)
Oskar creates this vision of a pocket that everyone could be in, so he could have a feeling of safty and comfort. If everyone was in this pocket then no one could get hurt. This illudes to his fathers death because if everyone had been in this pocket then no one could have been hurt, not even his father.
i think that oskers ideas of pockets come from the loss of his father and his imiturity to handle this great catastrphie in his life so he trys to find ways that he can save him and everyone he loves from danger by securing them in a large pocket, that is warm, feels good and is safe. so that osker wont ever have to lose anyone again. everyone can be safe in his world. but what osker needs to find out is that not everything in this world that will happen to you is good. another thing he need to muture about is that his father is dead and even though he thinks that in his world his father could be safe with these inventions, theres one problem, his dad already dead and isnt coming back.
